Consolidate your information assets—and make better business decisions

Content starts here Master your enterprise data with the right data warehousing solution
To make complex decisions and respond quickly to business events, your executives need access to information that is current, trustworthy and relevant. That sounds easy enough, but for most companies the reality is something else.

When doing analysis at an enterprise level, there’s a good chance the information your management team needs is scattered across your organization in different data repositories. This pervasive problem of integrating data from disparate sources makes it difficult for your execs and business managers to make decisions quickly. Do they really have all the information they need to make a fully informed decision? And do they all have a consistent view of the business?

Bringing it all together

To gain this consolidated view, your organization needs to do more than cobble together costly data marts that are scattered across your enterprise. That’s like trying to build an airplane out of mismatched parts that have accumulated in different storage buildings—the end result will never fly.

Instead, you need an enterprise data warehouse platform that consolidates and integrates all of your information assets to deliver a single, powerful business view. This is the idea behind the HP Neoview enterprise data warehouse platform. HP Neoview is designed to simplify data management requirements by consolidating different types of data repositories—operational data stores, data marts and data warehouses—onto an integrated data warehousing platform.

Evaluating HP Neoview: An objective view

Let’s take a look at some of the key requirements for next-generation data warehouses, and how HP Neoview addresses them. WinterCorp, an independent consulting firm specializing in performance and scalability of large-scale data warehouse implementations, conducted a detailed review of HP Neoview to evaluate its capability in some of these critical areas. Here are excerpts from their resulting white paper, “HP Neoview: Architecture and Performance” published in June 2009, which documents their findings.

Scalability: “Overall, Neoview uses thorough-going parallelism that is crucial to achieving linear scalability. Its shared nothing architecture and high degree of parallelism lend Neoview the tools to effectively deal with the two major impediments to database scalability, resource contention and data skew.”

Performance: “In both WinterCorp and customer tests, processing tens of terabytes of data in parallel across as many as 256 processors, the HP Neoview system has delivered impressive performance at a surprisingly attractive price."

Mixed workload processing: “The inherent design of Neoview makes it a sound platform for both traditional data warehousing and the emerging requirements of operational analytical systems.”

Complex query processing: “Both in large scale production and in over fifty customer proofs of capability, Neoview has satisfied and exceeded customer requirements for complex query processing.”

Availability: “Working with Neoview staff, we conducted a series of tests to observe Neoview’s availability and recovery capabilities first hand. … These results confirm the unmatched level of system availability provided by the Neoview platform.”

Manageability: “Neoview manageability starts by delivering pre-configured, pre-integrated systems, including the built-in Neoview Transporter, ready to load data. In addition, all availability features are included, and ready to use as part of the standard package. This approach not only eliminates many ramp-up costs, but dramatically shortens time to value—the time between system acquisition and the delivery of real business benefits.”

Conclusions: “With Neoview, HP has developed an architecture that is well suited to the emerging requirements for operational analytical systems, as well as the more traditional data warehouse requirements for query, reporting and analysis. In addition, production customer experience as well as real-world customer projects—reviewed by WinterCorp—show that Neoview is now increasingly proven in large scale use.”

How HP can help

Deploying an enterprise data warehousing platform can be costly, time consuming and risky. HP Neoview—a pre-configured, pre-integrated and pre-tested platform—is built to simplify the configuration and deployment process. It includes startup and deployment services that enable you to begin loading data as soon as your system is powered up. Our BI consultants work closely with your staff to evaluate your technology environment, develop and document the right solution for your business, and perform a site-readiness evaluation.

At our factory, we transform your design into a fully configured and pre-tested platform that can be quickly deployed into your environment. Once installed, we provide your IT staff with a system orientation that includes information on the operation of the platform, system maintenance and support.
