HP R707 Camera Firmware Safety Recall

Program summary

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Hewlett-Packard Company is recalling the firmware used in the HP R707 camera. HP customers who have the R707 Camera are asked to obtain and install a free firmware upgrade from HP. The affected cameras were distributed worldwide.

Problem

When the R707 camera is used with a non-rechargeable battery, such as a Duracell CP-1, the camera can cause the battery to overheat resulting in a burn and fire hazard while the camera is connected to the ac adapter or camera docking station

Product

HP Photosmart R707 digital camera 

The R707 camera contains firmware that controls the battery charging functions. The firmware provided with all R707 cameras is affected by this recall.
