Is the battery that came with my camera affected by this issue?

No. This issue only affects batteries that can be purchased at retail for single use.  The Duracell CP1 is the only battery of this type that HP is aware of or has tested.  However other brands may be available.

Does this issue affect HP cameras other than the HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera?

No. This issue only affects the HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera.

Does this issue affect my camera if I use the ac/dc adapter rather than a docking station?

Yes. The camera will attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries when connected to an adapter or a docking station.

Do I need to update my firmware, if I don’t intend to use a single use battery?

Yes. HP strongly recommends that you update the HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera firmware whether or not you intend to use single-use batteries.  This is to assure that the camera is appropriately updated should someone who may be unaware of this issue use a non-rechargeable battery with the camera.  In the only event reported to HP, a non-rechargeable battery had been installed by a family member and the camera owner was not aware of the type of battery installed and in use in the camera.

Are single-use non-rechargeable batteries safe to use if I do not dock my camera or plug in the dc power jack?

Yes. However, HP still recommends that you update the firmware and use only the batteries that came with the HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera until the update is complete. This is to assure the camera is appropriately updated should someone who may be unaware of this issue use a non-rechargeable battery.  In the only event reported to HP, a non-rechargeable battery had been installed by a family member and the camera owner was not aware of the type of battery installed and in use in the camera.

Is my camera safe to dock if I remove the single use battery?

Yes. However, HP still recommends that you update the firmware and use only the batteries that came with the HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera until the update is complete.  This is to assure the camera is appropriately updated in the event someone unaware of this issue uses a non-rechargeable battery.  In the only event reported to HP, the non-rechargeable battery had been installed by a family member and the camera owner was not aware of the type of battery installed and in use in the camera.

Do I need to upgrade my firmware if I use a different brand of rechargeable battery?

Yes, HP recommends firmware updates for all HP Photosmart R707 Digital Cameras.  The issue is not related to the brand of rechargeable or non-rechargeable battery used.

How do I update my R707 firmware, if I don't have internet  access?

Call the HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera hotline at 1-866-304-7117 and request that the update kit be sent to you by mail.  The hotline is available from 6am to 6pm MST Monday through Friday.

Can I use my camera while I wait for my update kit by mail?

Yes.  However, non-rechargeable, single-use batteries should not be used in the camera until the update is complete.  The HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera Li ion rechargeable battery supplied with your camera is safe to use as normal.

Will this firmware update affect the battery life of the camera or change charging time?

No. Battery life and charging time will remain the same.

Can I trade my camera in for a newer model instead of updating the firmware?

No. The firmware update preserves all functions in the HP Photosmart R707 Digital Camera and eliminates the issue.  Thus, a trade-in program is unnecessary.
