Recycling your hardware and printing supplies

Find HP Planet Partners return and recycling envelopes inside your cartridge packaging, or request postage-paid shipping materials online.

With the HP Planet Partners program, plastics and metals from recycled cartridges are recovered for use in new products. And participating in the program couldn’t be easier.

• Use your postage-paid shipping materials Most HP inkjet and LaserJet printing supplies come packaged with pre-addressed, postage-paid shipping materials. Check for shipping materials inside your cartridge packaging, and follow the instructions to return your empty cartridges to HP.
• Request materials
  If you’ve misplaced the shipping materials that came with your cartridges, you can still request postage-paid shipping materials online. Once you put in a request, your shipping materials should arrive within 7 to 10 business days. Then just follow these instructions for packaging and shipping your used printing supplies.
• Use your at-work recycling program
  Check with your employer to see if your company is currently participating in an at-work recycling program. Many offices use HP cartridge collection boxes—just drop your used cartridges inside. When the box is full, your company can contact HP to pick up the materials.

With the HP Trade-In Program, you can trade in your used HP or non-HP products for a cash allowance to use toward the purchase of new HP equipment. Hardware such as desktop and notebook computers, printers, monitors, and copiers from most manufacturers are accepted.

• Get a free quote
  To get started, visit the HP Trade-In site to get a free quote. Complete the “Describe your product(s)” form by selecting your product category from the drop-down menu. Then select the manufacturer, model, condition, and quantity of used products you are trading in. Enter your zip code and click the Add to Quote button to receive your free trade-in quote.
• Register
  Once you review your results and accept the Trade-In Program terms and conditions, fill out a simple registration form with your personal information.
• Submit your trade information
  Once you finish registering, submit your trade. You’ll get a confirmation e-mail, which you can print and save for your records. Once you purchase your new HP product (you can make a purchase 30 days before or after your trade), send your proof-of-purchase and confirmation e-mail via fax to 770-925-9064. Make sure to ship the product you are trading within 30 days of your confirmation e-mail to get your trade-in credit.

If you discover that your product is ineligible for trade-in, there are still a number of environmentally friendly disposal options.

• Recycle
  If your hardware is in no shape to donate, you can still recycle your HP or non-HP products through HP’s hardware recycling program. The cost of the recycling service ranges from $13-$34 per item, depending on the type and quantity of hardware to be returned. Just head to the hardware recycling services site to obtain a free cost estimate and packaging and shipping instructions.
• Donate
  Consider donating your used hardware to schools, local charities, or other non-profit organizations—like the National Cristina Foundation—that provide equipment and education to communities that wouldn’t otherwise have access to information technology. Your donation is tax deductible and will benefit both your community and our environment.
• Earth 911

Before you trade in, donate, or recycle your computer or other personal electronic device, it’s important to remove any saved personal data.

Your Internet browser's cache, cookies, history, e-mail contacts, messages, and documents should all be properly cleared using disk-cleaning software, such as Blancco Data Cleaner or Active@ Kill Disk Hard Drive Eraser. Disk-cleaning utilities will overwrite the sectors of your hard drives, making your personal data unrecoverable.
