To print vivid, lab-quality photos, it's vital to choose the proper settings for the type and size of paper you're using. Thanks to Auto Sense-enabled HP printers and photo papers, this is all done automatically!
Technology that makes sense
Enjoy effortless photo printing when you use HP photo papers and HP printers that feature breakthrough Auto Sense technology. With Auto Sense, your HP Advanced Photo Paper, HP Premium Photo Paper and HP Premium Plus Photo Paper communicate with your Auto Sense-enabled HP printer to automatically optimize printer settings. This can save you paper, ink and time by producing stunning prints without any guesswork.
Just click print
When you use HP printers and photo paper with Auto Sense technology, all you have to do is click "Print" – Auto Sense takes care of the rest.
You'll even get an alert if your photo paper is loaded incorrectly. For example, HP Auto Sense-enabled printers will alert you if paper is loaded upside-down in the paper tray, eliminating the potential for printing on the wrong side. Plus, when you print using tabbed photo papers, Auto Sense technology ensures your printer automatically adjusts to avoid printing part of your photo on the tab.
When using other photo papers, plain papers and non-HP media, HP media sensing provides automatic detection for different paper types including plain paper, photo paper and transparencies. Automatic media sensing saves the time and effort of having to select specific print settings, as well as the expense associated with making a wrong selection.
Optimal settings – automatically
As soon as you click “Print,” Auto Sense takes over to optimize your settings. Print settings appear as a pop-up dialog box when you select “Print” under “Properties.” Since Auto Sense determines these settings automatically, you get worry-free printing up to four times faster* than prints produced with other photo papers.
Want to change an Auto Sense recommendation? No worries – you still have full control of all the printer settings. Auto Sense simply means no more mistakes, no wasted paper or ink, no blurry prints – just fast and effortless lab-quality photos every time from your HP inkjet printer.
Your printer's sixth sense
The Auto Sense sensor detects unique Auto Sensing marks on the back of select HP media and the printer automatically chooses the appropriate colour profiles and print settings including the following key variables that are then optimized to produce the best prints possible:

Auto Sense will now optimize your printer settings and correct any paper loading errors.”
