materials:

  • 2 Sheets of card stock
  • X-ACTO knife or scissors
  • Cutting mat
  • Metal-edged ruler
  • Double-stick tape
  • Butter knife or scoring tool
  • Spoon

instructions:

  1. Print the card front (page 1 of the pdf) onto card stock. Set aside to dry completely.
  2. For easier folding, score the card spine. To do this, lay a ruler along each set of red dotted lines, and run a butter knife or scoring tool along the ruler. Use medium pressure to create an indentation on the paper.
  3. Place the cutting mat underneath the card front. Using the X-ACTO knife and the ruler as your guide, trim the white areas away from the card front.
  4. Carefully fold the card front along the two scored lines. Using the back of a spoon, press the folds firmly to crease. Set your card front aside.
  5. Customize the card inside (page 2 of the pdf) by typing your message into the space provided. Hint: To create a blank field on the customizable invitation, click on the text section to select it and then press delete.
  6. Print the card inside onto card stock. Set aside to dry completely.
  7. Score the spine on the inside of the card as in step 2, on either side of the bowling ball, but do not score on top of the bowling ball. The ball is part of the card that pops out.
  8. To create the pop-up bowling pins, score the pairs of red dotted near the bowling pins.
  9. Place the cutting mat underneath the card inside. Using the X-ACTO knife and the ruler as your guide, trim the white areas away from the card inside.
  10. Next, cut along the black lines around the bowling pins, also along the straight lines that cross the score marks.
  11. Carefully begin to fold your card inside in half along the spine, to about a 90º angle. The bowling pins will be loose. From the back, push the bowling pins forward until the strip that connects them to the card is perpendicular to the card inside.
  12. Gently crease along the scored lines, then slowly fold the card in half guiding the pins to lay flat. Set your card inside aside.
  13. Print the square insert (page 3 of the pdf) onto card stock. Set aside to dry completely.
  14. Place the cutting mat underneath the card front. Using the X-ACTO knife and the ruler as your guide, trim the white areas away from the square.

card assembly

  1. Place double-sided tape on the back of the square insert and attach to the back side of the Lucky Lanes card front.
  2. Place double-sided tape to one half of the back of the card inside(do not tape any part of the bowling pins or ball or else the pop-up effect will not work) and attach to the corresponding side of the card front, making sure to carefully align the spines.
  3. Apply double-sided tape to the remaining half of the card inside and press the card firmly together.
  4. If needed, trim the edges of the using your metal-edged ruler and the X-ACTO knife. Align the ruler right along the card edge and make several cuts with medium pressure to achieve a clean edge.
