  • Universal compatibility
Fax recipients won’t struggle with various versions of different applications, such as Windows, Acrobat, or Flash.
  • Real-time results
Faxing offers the comfort of immediately knowing whether or not your message was received.
  • Simple signatures
Avoid the hassle of obtaining or returning a signature. Faxing allows the easy transfer of signed documents (such as contracts) between two or more parties.
  • Hard copy friendly
Faxing is a fast, easy way to share hard copy data, and lets you skip the extra step of scanning.

Understanding the features and terminology associated with your HP fax machine will help you take full advantage of its capabilities.

  • Automatic document feeder (ADF): Quickly feeds in paper so that you don’t have to manually insert each page. Allows convenient, unattended faxing.
  • Junk fax blocking: Saves ink and paper by allowing your fax machine to block unwanted faxes from specific numbers that appear on caller ID (referred to as junk fax numbers).
  • Auto fax reduction: Automatically reduces a fax to fit onto one page (if not possible, or if you turn this feature off, the extra information is then printed onto a second page). Automatic reduction is useful when you receive a legal-size fax, but have letter-size paper loaded.
  • Fax broadcasting: Allows you to send the same fax to numerous numbers simultaneously. This feature can help you save time when sending newsletters, press, releases, or business price lists.
  • Fax memory: The number of incoming or outgoing pages that your fax machine can digitally store. For more information, check out Fax Memory: How much do you need?
  • Queue: Faxes that are being processed (outgoing and ingoing) are stored in a queue, or line. You can even scan multiple outgoing faxes straight to a queue (even while transmitting others), where they will be stored and sent in succession.
  • Phone features: Some fax machines offer advanced phone messaging capabilities, such as speakerphone and one-touch dialing.
  • Polling: When a fax machine polls to receive, it requests a specific fax from another fax machine’s queue. Conversely, when a fax machine has the ability to be polled, you can scan a document into your fax’s queue for other parties to retrieve at their convenience (for example, when their calling rates are lower).
  • Distinctive ring detection: If you have multiple telephone numbers on a single line, you can assign a specific ring pattern to each. When the phone rings, the distinctive ring detection feature then detects these patterns and identifies what type of call it is (for example, fax-specific, business, or personal).

With so many different features and capabilities, there’s an HP fax machine to meet everyone’s faxing needs.

  • The essentials
For everyday faxing, consider the compact, inexpensive, and easy-to-use HP 640 fax machine.
  • More memory and speed dials
As your fax volume increases, so might your need for fax memory. Try the HP 1040 fax machine for greater memory and more speed dials.
  • Phone messaging features
Those with a small business or home office will appreciate the combination of faxing capabilities and advanced phone messaging features offered by the HP 2140 fax machine. This particular fax model comes with 15-minute incoming message storage, speakerphone, and remote access to messages (so you can check your messages when you’re out of the office).
  • Copy capabilities
In addition to extra phone functions, the HP 2140 fax machine features the highest copy capacity (up to 100 copies) of any HP black-and-white fax machine.
  • Higher speed and more memory
The HP 3180 fax machine offers the most fax memory of the HP fax machine family. A generous fax memory can be particularly convenient for those whose fax machine may run out of paper during long periods of unattended use.
