With Smart Install, it’s easier than ever to get your entire family or office connected and printing to a new HP LaserJet printer. Just connect, click, and start printing—it’s really that simple.1

What is HP Smart Install?

Set up your printer in just minutes with Smart Install—no installation CD required.1

Smart Install eliminates the need for a software installation CD because the printer’s driver is stored on the printer’s flash memory.1 That means anytime you want to connect a new device to your printer, you simply connect it to your computer with a USB cable, install, and print.

  • No need to install or keep track of the CD with your printer driver
  • Connect multiple computers at once over a wireless network
  • Great for netbook computers or devices without a CD drive

The Smart Install software lives on your printer’s flash drive, ready for anyone to install in just moments.

Without a CD, your new printer can be installed in as little as two minutes, or five minutes with a multifunction product.1

  1. Plug in your new LaserJet and power it on.
  2. Connect the USB cable from the printer to your computer.
  3. Click to accept license agreement.
  4. Choose between a connected or wireless connection for your printer. If you select wireless, disconnect USB cable at the end of the setup.
  5. Your new printer is installed.

Printing a configuration page is all you need to connect your family or office to one printer, wirelessly.

Smart Install printers come network ready, so it is easier than ever to connect your entire family or office to your new LaserJet printer.1 There is no limit to how many devices you can connect, and with no instillation CD, there is no waiting for your turn to download the printer’s driver.

  1. Configure your printer to operate on a wireless network by connecting it to a computer with a USB cable.
  2. Print a configuration page from your printer in order to view the product’s IP address.
  3. Send the IP address to family or co-workers and have them open the address in a new browser, or simply open a folder on the server with the IP address saved inside.
  4. The IP address will launch the printer’s Embedded Web Server, which will allow users to run the HP Smart Install through their browser and not require them to connect with a USB cable.
