Connect a wireless printer using a setup wizard

You can put your HP wireless printer anywhere when you’re not tied down by cables.

About the Wireless Setup Wizard method

• You will need the following information to use this connection method:
  • Your network name, or SSID (Service Set Identifier).
  • Your WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption key or WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) passphrase—also referred to as your network password.

Does my printer support this method?

This connection method is featured on most newer HP printers and all-in-ones.
Check your printer’s manual to see if your HP printer or all-in-one supports this method.

Don’t have your printer’s manual? You can download a copy from HP.com. Simply enter your printer model and select Manuals from the onscreen options.

Find an alternate connection method
If this wireless connection method doesn’t work for you, explore additional connection methods, such as the Wi-Fi Protected Setup method and the USB cable setup method.

You’ll need a wireless printer, like the HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-in-One, and a wireless router.

Before you set up your wireless printer using the Wireless Setup Wizard method, you’ll need:

A wireless router

• Don’t have it set up yet? Learn how to easily connect your wireless router.

Information about your wireless network

• You will need to know your network name, or SSID
• You will also need to know your WEP encryption key or passphrase—also referred to as your network password (this is the password you created the first time you established your wireless network).
• If you can’t remember your network name or passphrase, check the back or side of your wireless router or refer to the manual that came with your computer or router. If you got your router as part of an internet/cable/phone package, you could also try contacting your service provider.

A wireless printer
Wireless printing only works with wireless-enabled printers. And, while your printer won’t be connected to your computer using any cables, the printer will need to be connected to a power source.

The printer in this demo features a touchscreen. If your HP wireless printer does not have a touchscreen, it will most likely feature buttons near the printer’s control panel that you can use to navigate the settings. Consult your printer’s manual to see the exact steps for your printer model.
