When you work from home, you need a tidy, quiet space to be productive. This year, take a few moments to give your home office a fresh start by clearing the clutter! |

Step 1: Organize |
 |
A picture frame here, a bobblehead there. At first they seem like fun, harmless decorations—but it’s easy to go overboard, especially when knickknacks accumulate year after year.
It’s fine to keep one or two photos or personal items on your desk, but the primary purpose of your workspace is to get work done, so don’t let those items get in the way. To free up desktop space, consider making a photo collage poster or a personalized photo calendar to hang above your desk.
Reference books and electronics like a printer or fax machine can also eat up valuable desk space. Consider adding bookshelves or a printer stand to keep those items accessible without cramping your work area. |
Step 2: File |
 |
Now that you’ve cleared some space on your desk, it’s time to deal with the stacks of papers. Sort through old paperwork and projects, then create two piles: one for filing and another for recycling.
Store the items you need in a file cabinet. Or, to free up even more space, scan your paper documents and save them as electronic files. To learn more about electronic archiving, read Use Your Scanner to Create the Ultimate Filing System. |
Step 3: Clean out and recycle |
 |
| It sounds simple and it really is: Get rid of the things you don’t need. If you have an old printer that’s collecting dust, donate or recycle it through HP’s Product Recycling Program. Toss pens that never seem to work. Shred sensitive documents that are no longer needed. |
A fresh start |
 |
| By following the three easy steps above, your home office will be more organized and efficient, so you can get the most out of each workday. |
